Posture This..., A More Powerful and Energetic Appearance

By Dr. Stein, Stein Chiropractic LLC

As a chiropractic physician it becomes second nature to look at a patient’s posture. From the moment I see my patient, I look how they get up from the chair and how they move. Do they walk hunched over, do their feet flare abnormally, do they limp, etc.? The funny thing is that I think about posture all the time, even when I go to a mall or a restaurant. Constantly, I see people all the time with poor posture. Poor posture is caused by many reasons, such as injuries or weaknesses to ligaments, muscles and bones, excessive weight, foot problems and visual challenges.

So go ahead and stand in front of a mirror and close your eyes. Stand completely normal and then open your eyes. Is one shoulder hanging lower than the other side? Are you leaning to one side? Are you the one with the bad posture?

You might ask why correct posture is important. As a matter of fact, you may still remember your parents telling you to sit upright and to draw your shoulders back when you walk. But what are the benefits of proper posture?

It gives you a more powerful and energetic appearance. Studies have shown that people like this will get mugged less often. Makes sense to me; what thief wants to get into a fight with their victim? It also benefits anyone who deals with the public, such as salespeople. Who would you rather buy a car from? The confident salesperson or the guy who slouches in his chair lazily?

It reduces the chances for injury.

Since your lungs have more physical space in an upright body, you will automatically benefit from a larger lung capacity. This will give you more stamina and energy.

To sum it up, correct posture is very important and very beneficial. It makes you appear taller than you actually are and don’t we all want to “grow a few inches”? (Maybe not all of us; I am OK with my 86 inches). Small infinity logo (end of article)
